Is this bill splitter really free?
Yes. No account, no ads, no limit on people or expenses. It runs in your browser and keeps working offline once the page has loaded.
How is each person's share calculated?
Each expense is divided evenly between the people it was split between, in whole cents. When a bill doesn't divide exactly — €100 between three — the extra cent goes to the first person, so the shares always add back up to the bill.
What does “fewest transfers” mean?
Instead of everyone paying back everyone, the balances are netted first: whoever is owed money is paid by whoever owes it, in as few payments as possible. A group of n people never needs more than n − 1 transfers.
Can I split unevenly, or have two people pay one bill?
Here you choose who shares each expense, which covers most trips. Exact amounts, shares and several payers on one bill are in the Lumela app, together with receipts and multi-currency.
Where is my data stored?
Only in this browser. Nothing you type is sent to Lumela or anyone else. When you share a link, the split is encoded inside the link itself, so whoever opens it sees exactly what you sent.
